Roulette is a timeless game of chance that offers real thrills to serious players. Although its rules may seem simplistic, roulete offers surprising levels of depth for those with an appreciation for its beauty and depth. Though not suitable for novice players, payouts may be high.
To play roulette, players place chips on a roulette table map. There are various types of bets, including inside and outside bets. Inside bets require placing your chips on specific numbers with increased odds; outside bets provide easier gaming for beginners since you can place wagers across a group of numbers with lower payoff.
Each slot on a wheel is divided into three color-coded groups of red, black, odd and even numbers arranged symmetrically with either one or two number ranges in each group. Further subdivision is done using three or four symmetrical subsections each featuring one pair of numbers that alternate positions – totaling 37 or 38 combinations depending on which wheel type is being used.
Once bets have been placed, a croupier throws a small ball onto a spinning wheel. Assuming your bet was successful and settles into one of the pockets marked with your number bet on, any winning amounts are distributed accordingly.
Before beginning betting, it is essential that you set a budget and assess your risk tolerance. Each table features a placard which specifies minimum and maximum bet amounts permitted – this will help avoid making costly errors such as betting more than you can afford to lose.
Betting on individual numbers can be risky as their chances of coming up are relatively slim. Instead, consider betting on groups of numbers for improved odds and variety; street bets (or cheval bets in French) offer better chances and pay out 11-1 if successful.
Dozens bet, known in French as douzaine, is another popular roulette table bet. To place this bet, simply place your chip(s) around any dozen of numbers – such as first, second or third dozen on a roulette table map – outside. Odds on this bet are 2-1 with payout being much less than for an inside bet. Regardless of which bet you choose – Dozens bet or Odd/Even bet – it is advised that neither be made simultaneously since this could reduce chances of winning chances significantly and winning out quickly will only serve to shorten bankroll management in an instantaneous fashion!
