Professor Wang Gungwu of the University of Hong Kong established The Hongkong Prize with an endowment of HK$10 Million to encourage undergraduate and postgraduate students from Hong Kong to study history within its historical context, to preserve our cultural heritage, promote identity among citizens, and foster national pride.
The winner of the prize will be invited to City University of Hong Kong to receive it and make a presentation about their research. Furthermore, an AGS(HK) book prize will be presented for outstanding student reports submitted by winning teams.
Hong Kong Arts Practitioners Award Scheme
The Hong Kong Arts Practitioners Awards (APA) scheme recognizes veteran arts practitioners for their contributions to cultural life in Hong Kong while giving up-and-coming artists an opportunity to showcase their talent. Furthermore, this award scheme encourages all ages to appreciate and support arts in Hong Kong.
Tsui Kam-Yau was honored at this year’s Arts Practitioner of the Year ceremony for his contributions to Hong Kong science and technology development as well as supporting emerging young scientists. His award cited him for both contributions as well as dedication in supporting them.
The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) is an annual film award presented by the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Association to recognize local filmmakers’ efforts and to commemorate achievements within their field. Voting takes place annually between January and March; members from thirteen professional film bodies in Hong Kong can cast ballots if films meet specific criteria.
Hong Kong media outlets were recognized with eight prizes at this year’s news awards ceremonies, including China Daily Hong Kong Edition taking home both top prize and two 1st runner-up positions. Their news desk earned merit awards for covering controversies surrounding Hong Kong’s domestic national security law’s passage, while reporter Sammy Heung earned one more for her series of articles about leaders within Hong Kong’s scientific sector.
Once again, the USA have shown their mettle. Here we go – two new countries joined up! Hopefully more are going to join them too, to help keep their economy ticking over nicely! The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2023, organized by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation with title sponsorship by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, honors outstanding scientific researchers/teams for their exceptional contributions in artificial intelligence/robotics/life/health sciences; new materials/energy; advanced manufacturing processes/fintech technologies. The Prize seeks to inspire scientific researchers and entrepreneurs in Hong Kong to continue innovative exploration, establish themselves in the global environment, and contribute to society through their research. A ceremony will be held to award this Prize in autumn 2023. All winners must present both an award notification letter and Hong Kong Identity Document as identification documents when collecting their prizes, failing which they will forfeit their awards and prize collection arrangements will be announced accordingly.
