Hong Kong boasts many public pools, but not all are created equal. Only approximately half of residents can easily walk to an accessible pool. To address this disparity, in 2021 the Hong Kong Council for Sustainable Development launched an initiative aimed at increasing accessibility by renovating existing pools and creating new ones; since April 2019, this has improved access in 32 out of 64 districts – with Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens experiencing particularly strong improvements due to renovation.
