The Hongkong Prize is one of the world’s premier writing competitions, drawing thousands of applicants each year and awarding winners with both monetary prizes and an opportunity to showcase their work at an awards ceremony. Before submitting an entry, it’s crucial that you read all rules and regulations thoroughly to ensure your submission meets with all requirements without breaking any guidelines.

The Hong Kong Prize is open to residents from Southeast Asia, mainland China and around the world. Judging is carried out in three waves beginning March 1st with winners selected on March 11th being flown directly to Hong Kong for an unforgettable cultural immersion experience. Applicants will need to submit an original research article published in a peer-reviewed journal with them being its principal author for consideration.

Winners of the Hongkong Prize will have an opportunity to conduct research at local universities and laboratories, connect with experts in their fields, expand their knowledge base while working on new projects, as well as receiving an honorarium of HK$10,000 as well as present their ideas to key stakeholders in the development sector.

As well as receiving a gold medal prize of HK$100,000, athletes who finish among the top eight will also receive financial benefits in various amounts; those winning bronze will get HK$750,000 while fourth through eighth placed athletes will each be offered an amount that doubles what was offered for team events medals.

The Hong Kong Prize was established to encourage students to learn more about Hong Kong’s history and role in international development cooperation. Thanks to Professor Wang Gungwu’s donation, this prize has become a unique competition that allows students to develop their passion for learning while contributing to Hong Kong’s legacy of global development.
